Summary of KULTA’s strategy 2024−2027
Strategy 2024−2027 of the Central Organization for Finnish Culture and Arts Associations KULTA ry – summary. See the full strategy in Finnish here.
Culture is the solution
The aim of KULTA’s advocacy work is to ensure that
- the cultural sector grows, and
- culture, art and cultural heritage are part of everyone’s everyday life.
In order to achieve these goals, it is essential
- to increase the cultural budget to one percent, and
- that culture and the arts address key challenges facing society.
The story of Finnish culture
Finland has been built by art as a nation among nations. The majority of Finns regularly engage in cultural activities and countless volunteers provide experiences for others. Finns are broadly behind the idea that culture belongs to everyone: the majority of Finns believe that public funds should ensure access to culture.
Our task is to work together to make the story of Finnish culture one in which the next 100 years can be told with as much pride as the last. We Finns will continue to exist because we have our own languages and cultures, in all their diversity and pluralism. Culture is a matter of security. Our ambassadors are the artists who have been successful in the world.
What is the mission of KULTA?
KULTA is the common voice of the cultural sector. We succeed in our mission when KULTA engages in effective advocacy in a positive and proactive way, in cooperation with others. KULTA has an influence where decisions are made, and social debate takes place. KULTA meets with decision-makers on a broad scale and brings the cultural sector’s perspective to discussions where it may not be heard. KULTA is always helpful to decision-makers, but KULTA has no influence on how funding is distributed within the cultural sector. KULTA helps all those who wish to do so to strengthen their own advocacy work in the cultural and artistic sector. KULTA’s advocacy is underpinned by the fact that the cultural and artistic sector promotes equal rights for all to make and experience culture, operates internationally and is constantly renewing itself. It is particularly important for the future to ensure that every child and young person has the right to culture, art and cultural heritage, both as a creator and as an experience.
Goal state: The cultural sector influences at the heart of society.
What everyone has to do?
Culture is made and experienced because it responds to the basic human need to be seen. Culture is a way of being part of a community of people where we can express ourselves and understand others. In these uncertain times, culture brings and creates security, continuity, pleasure and strengthens well-being, community and mental health.
Goal state: Cultural will is strong in Finland.
Objectives for other actors
Cultural policy makers: Increasing the culture budget to one percent.
Culture lovers: People are willing to pay for culture.
Education sector: Culture is a solution for education policy.
Business policy: The creative industries are seen as a basic industry and the economic and employment impact of culture is recognised.
Social and health sector: Cultural and social welfare actors work together to find solutions.
